Bhagavad Gita 5.18
Krishna to Arjunaविद्याविनयसम्पन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि ।शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिताः समदर्शिनः ॥ १८ ॥
Transliteration
vidyāvinayasampanne brāhmaṇe gavi hastiniśuni caiva śvapāke ca paṇḍitāḥ samadarśinaḥ
The wise see with equality a brahmin endowed with learning and humility, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and a person who cooks dogs.
Original King of Dwarka translationReflection inspired by Bhagavad Gita 5.18
We learn to rank people before we notice how quickly we do it. This verse unsettles that habit by extending equal vision across status and species. The encounter begins to change when prestige is no longer the condition for our attention.
Source & context
Krishna describes equal vision across learned persons, animals and a person labelled śvapāka, literally a dog-cooker and historically treated as an outcaste. The social contrast is translated, not endorsed; the teaching concerns equal vision.
