Transliteration
āpūryamāṇam acala-pratiṣṭhaṃsamudram āpaḥ praviśanti yadvattadvat kāmā yaṃ praviśanti sarvesa śāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī
As waters enter the ocean, which remains steady though continually filled, so all desires enter the one who attains peace, not the one who longs to gratify desire.
Original King of Dwarka translationReflection inspired by Bhagavad Gita 2.70
The ocean is not pictured as empty. Its steadiness has room for what enters, without becoming a restless search for one more thing.
Source & context
Krishna describes the person of settled understanding. Kāma can mean desires or desired objects; the image concerns freedom from craving, not emotional numbness.
