Transliteration
mātrāsparśāstu kaunteya śītoṣṇasukhaduḥkhadāḥāgamāpāyino’nityāstāṃstitikṣasva bhārata
Contacts of the senses, son of Kunti, bring cold and heat, pleasure and pain. They come and go and do not endure. Bear them patiently, descendant of Bharata.
Original King of Dwarka translationReflection inspired by Bhagavad Gita 2.14
The language of coming and going gives experience a horizon. It does not deny the weight of pain, or ask another person to measure how much it hurts.
Source & context
Krishna distinguishes changing sensory experiences from what endures. This verse is not a promise that every grief passes quickly.
