Transliteration

Death is certain for what is born, and birth is certain for what has died. Therefore you should not grieve over what cannot be avoided.
Original King of Dwarka translationReflection inspired by Bhagavad Gita 2.27
Love does not give us the power to keep a life from ending. Facing that limit can be painful. The verse brings mortality into view, leaving us to consider how we might care for one another in the time that is actually ours.
Source & context
Krishna addresses Arjuna’s grief within an argument about birth, death and rebirth. His direct instruction belongs to that dialogue; it is not a judgement on a bereaved person’s feelings.
