Krishna Stories for Bedtime, 12 Gentle Stories to Read Together, complete book cover
A familiar voice. One more gentle story.

A little evening ritual

A familiar voice.
A world to enter.

A courtyard, a path through the trees, the cows returning home. Twelve small windows into Krishna’s childhood invite a slower kind of attention.

Read aloud beside a younger child, let an older reader take a turn, or linger together over an illustration. The book leaves room for a question, a quiet response or no response at all.

For children approximately 4–9. These are read-aloud stories, with optional family prompts. There are no worksheets or activities to finish.

The twelve-story journey

From a village welcome
to a room at rest.

  1. 01

    Welcome in Gokul

A child welcomed into the life of a village.

  2. 02

    Courtyard Steps

Small journeys, with familiar arms close by.

  3. 03

The Song Beside the Butter Pot

A household task pauses for a mother and child.

  4. 04

    The Fruit Seller

A handful of grain, fruit and an unexpected wonder.

  5. 05

    Friends and Calves

Companionship on the paths near home.

  6. 06

    A Forest Full of Welcome

The brothers notice a living world around them.

  7. 07

    The Forest Listens

A remembered flute and a forest grown attentive.

  8. 08

    The Cows Return Home

The gentle rhythm of a homeward journey.

  9. 09

    Rest Beneath the Tree

Friendship makes room for giving and receiving care.

  10. 10

    The River Grows Calm

Mercy and the restoration of the Yamuna.

  11. 11

    Shelter Beneath Govardhan

A steady presence and room for the whole community.

  12. 12

    Good Night in Vraja

The brothers return to care, comfort and sleep.

A thematic reading journey, not twelve consecutive nights or a complete chronology of Krishna’s life.

The visual world

The warmth of a lamp.
The depth of dusk.

Original illustrations carry the familiar Little Krishna characters into softer evening light. Courtyards, forest edges and quiet interiors give each story its own atmosphere.

Peacock shadows, warm ivory, muted terracotta and small pools of gold keep the world rich and calm. Evening lighting is an artistic interpretation wherever the source does not specify the time of day.

Two editions, one story collection

A screen beside you.
A book in your hands.

Digital Edition

Ivory pages.
Evening light.

A warm reading edition with generous serif type, linked contents and bookmarks for every story. Made for returning at your own pace in a compatible PDF reader.

Print Edition

White paper.
Room to breathe.

The same text and illustrations on a whiter interior, with comfortable margins and no dark full-bleed pages. The compact 7 × 9-inch pages fit A4 or Letter paper without stretching.

For parents & caregivers

Read beside them.
Let the pace be theirs.

A story need not be finished in one sitting. Pause at an illustration, skip a prompt or return to the same favorite another evening.

The caregiver guide offers practical support for different ages and sensitivities. River and storm episodes end in restored safety and shelter; preview them first if your child is sensitive to danger.

Stories held with care

A living tradition.
A clear source.

The twelve retellings draw on selected passages from Book Ten of the Bhagavata Purana. They are original English narration, not line-by-line scripture translations.

The Reading & Source Note gives each passage, explains gentle omissions and identifies editorial framing. Invented dialogue is never presented as Krishna’s words. Divine actions remain sacred narrative, never activities for children to imitate.

Before you begin

A few
useful answers.

What age is this for?

Approximately 4–9 years. Younger children can listen with an adult; confident older children may read independently. Follow your child’s interest and comfort.

Are these exact scriptural translations?

No. These are original King of Dwarka retellings of selected Bhagavata Purana passages. The Reading & Source Note distinguishes traditional events from narrative framing, illustrations and family prompts.

Is this a physical book?

No. This is a digital PDF package. A printed book, paper, binding and shipping are not included.

Can I print it?

Yes, for your purchasing household under the Personal Use License. The Print Edition retains color illustrations, with white interiors and comfortable margins. The Printing Guide explains A4 and Letter use.

Can I read it on a tablet?

Yes. Use a PDF reader with internal-link and bookmark support. The Digital Edition has linked contents, story bookmarks and generous type. Display and app behavior vary by device.

Are the stories suitable for bedtime?

The collection is written for slow, shared reading. Dramatic episodes focus on resolved danger, mercy and shelter. Preview any story first and choose what suits your child; you can pause or skip a story.

Does it include activities?

No puzzles, coloring pages or worksheets. The focus is stories and illustrations, with one optional gentle conversation at the end of each story.

How is it different from Little Krishna?

Little Krishna invites children to explore and create through stories, coloring and activities. Krishna Stories for Bedtime invites them to read and return through twelve illustrated read-aloud stories.
